Nice printer but setup is a pain
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
    Great printer overall.

Wireless works great, printing quality is good and I love that it has slots for memory cards. In addition it has separate color ink cartridges, it prints photos and it’s very quiet.

My only thing is that setup is not really user friendly. It’s not that it’s difficult, it just takes a long time and there are a lot of steps to it, which is why I’m not giving it 5 stars.

Regardless, in that price range I definitely recommend it.

Difficult to set up wireless and won’t scan without ink (!!)
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this because I was having too much trouble setting my wireless HP up, so I sold that and went with the MP620. Apparently this was a mistake. I was eventually able to set up the wireless connection, although it was very difficult, and after moving I have not been able to do it again (even though I kept the instruction sheet and I am definitely not a technophobe or anything like that). It has worked fine (I guess), I mean…it’s just a printer, so it printed and scanned and copied as a printer/scanner/copier should. However, I ran out of black ink (just one of the black ink cartridges), and instead of beginning to take ink from what I thought was the second black ink cartridge, an error message appeared and now I am unable to get rid of it to even use the scanning feature, which I would imagine would require no ink. I contacted Canon customer service and amongst the canned response that not only indicated they thought I was retarded but that they had only skimmed my question, I read that the entire unit will be unusable until I replace the ink cartridge, including the ink-free scanner. This is completely unacceptable to me, and I wish I had known this before purchasing the item. I will never buy from Canon again, if only because they are clearly solely interested in the bottom line (squeezing more money out of the customer whenever possible), and because of their poor and insulting customer service.

Straight to the point. I had many mechanism and software problems with the HPs and printing head problems with the Epsons. I decided to try Canon for the first time and it was the best thing I did. Looks great, installing software only what you need, excellent printing quality, durable high quality ink, very quiet, excellent multi-features overall. For me only Canon from now on. Thank you Canon and Amazon!!!

    Canon MP620 Printer
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I ordered this printer the other day; it arrived quickly and in perfect shape. I’ve read most of the reviews and was a little nervous about the set-up. There was no reason to be nervous, the written instructions were easy to understand and within 20 minutes I had the printer set up for two different computers; one a wireless laptop and the other a desktop via USB. The printing is percise and easy to read while the pictures are clear and crisp. I would definitely recommend this printer.

Great Printer Love the WiFi, Little tricky setting up
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have always liked Canon printers. Love the print quality. I print lots of photos, but this printer does excellent text also. The WiFi is great. It takes a little time printing quality photos, but worth the wait. It was a little tricky setting up the WiFi, only because I use mac filtering and had a little time finding the printers mac address. Would recommend this printer. Great ink mileage.

    great all in one printer!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a great all in one printer. I think the picture quality is very clear and it comes out really fast (this is my first laser printer). I also really like the scanner function because I’m always scanning my drawings into my computer. The copier also makes it really convenient for those impromptu moments.

I don’t use it daily, so I haven’t run out of ink yet. I know one of the biggest concerns people have is how long the ink lasts (at least that was my concern when shopping for one), but anyone that over uses it will have those problems no matter what printer they have.

All in all, I think the printer and the price is great. I like the size of it because it is somewhat compact (this was also another factor when shopping for a printer). The screen folds down to make it like a box, and I can fit it perfectly in one of the slots of my media console (i live in a studio apt and always make sure i have space for whatever i buy).

This printer was very easy to set up using USB on Windows. I haven’t tried to set it up using wirless yet, hope to soon on laptop with Vista. Copies are crisp and clear, so are photos. Great value for little $$$.

    Excellent Canon MP620 Photoprinter
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Outstanding photos. Wireless functionality fine for my home network. Really nice not to have to run wires. I can print from 2nd PC in another room fine. The SW set up was troublesome and never could get the PC controlled scanning feature to work, even after talking to Canon (worked if we hard-wire connected it). The quietest ink jet I’ve ever seen. An outstanding value.

    A Very Versatile Printer/Scanner
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is our second Canon printer, the first one being an MP460 which I still use. I have used both HP and Cannon printer/scanners, and both are good quality, but I find the scanning control software for the Cannon units is more flexible and gives me much more control of scanning jobs.

I love the wireless capability of the Canon MP620. We have three computers with the MP620 connected directly to one of them by a USB cable; the other two computers connect through my wireless network. It works great for both printing and scanning. It is great to be able to scan and print via a wireless connection from my laptop without either of the other two computers being turned on. I did have a little trouble getting one of my computers to talk with the MP620 over the network, but Canon’s tech support is great and the problem was quickly fixed.

The MP620 uses multiple ink tanks for better printing of photographs; this and the wireless capability were the two main reasons I bought this unit. The separate print head is removable. I expect that ink replacement costs will be lower for the MP620 than for my MP460, which uses two ink cartridges with integrated print heads.

The MP620 has slots for several different types of memory cards. This makes it very easy to download pictures from my cell phone. When not downloading pictures, I leave a memory card in the MP620 to serve as a place for sharing files between our three computers; it is like have a small networked hard drive.

I highly recommend the MP620. It provides a lot of features for a very reasonable price (particularly at Amazon.com).

I hate it. What was I thinking. I wish I had another HP.
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Set up, kinda complicated. Husband is engineer, he has lots of printers of all sorts. He hates it when I ask for help with this one.You can’t just scan something at the press of a button like you can HP-you have to plug something into the computer screen, load it like a picture-then somehow or another it will eventually work. I hate it. Now it keeps not letting us print. It says the paper tray is empty.

It is full. It says the one in the back (WHICH I AM NOT USING)is empty. I didn’t have to use it before, why do I have to now? It is not convenient to pull it out from the wall for this. It is the most difficult piece of computer equipment either of us have owned. We are usually VERY frugal; but will probably throw this peice of junk away & go get an HP.

    Canon MP620 Wireless all-in-one sweetness
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
First off, I used to have the old Canon S900 which was a great photo printer that worked for over 3 years flawlessly, except when the heads weren’t used periodically, but that’s an inkjet issue with all printers. the MP620 is easy to setup. If you setup the wirless portion, I highly suggest you using the manual as I tried to set it up without it and was totally frustrated as it would not work. There are special programming things that need to be done through the installation disc. At any rate, this printer is solid. It doesn’t hold a lot of paper, but it’s small so I don’t expect it to. The fact that it can print/scan and photo copy makes it the perfect home/office product. I printed some great photos and also made some great b&w documents. You’re never going to get this to print like a laser, so I can’t compare it to that. The ink is a little expensive, but you can always buy generic or go to staples and get coupons. They also take Canon OEM cartridges and give you $3 for each cartridge. At any rate, this this works great and my mother-in-law and brother-in-law and my own parents now own one!

The Cannon MP620 is an excellent wireless printer, scanner and copier combo
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
For people like my wife and I, who are using primarily our laptops over the wireless network, this printer turned out to be the perfect addition.

Setup was very easy, instructions were clear and in less than 30 min we could print from our laptops and in reverse could scan photos and documents to our laptops, all over the wireless network.

The printer is located 2 rooms from our wireless router, but in over 6 month I never had to deal with connection problems to our router. As a side note, I even could set it up to print (wireless) from my playstation 3 (PS3).

What I like in particular: No more cables plugging in and out from our laptops. I’m able to print from different computers. It has 2 paper trays (i.e. letter and photo paper loaded). Easy to operate scanner for pictures or documents, I also like that I can scan documents directly into pdf format (great for emails and electronic filing of documents). To make regular or color copies is also easy.

What I don’t like as much: Nothing really, of course there is always room for improvement and it doesn’t make coffee ;)

In summary: This is one of the best tech products I ever bought; it does exactly what I wanted and was an exceptional bargain.

I am not very technical, but this product was very easy to set up and is a piece of cake to use! Great buy for the money for sure! Prints beautiful, high quality photos aswell.

  15. J. Reilly Says:

    Very Slow
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Setup was buggy on Vista SP1, but what isn’t. The driver installation failed with an application error the first time I tried it. Since it is Windows, I tried again. It worked fine the second time. Don’t be afraid to just try it 3 times before cursing and calling tech support. (Installing on XP SP3 worked fine the first time.)

This printer is SLOOOOOW at the start. It takes a long time to power up (30-60 sec). And then it takes a long time for the first print/copy job. You can hear it initializing the printer heads for another 30-60 sec, even after you heard them banging around during power up. Power down is also very slow.

Once it starts printing, it is quiet and future jobs are faster.

The print quality is OK. Photos look a little yellow tinged, but go to a professional quality printer if you want a really nice photo to keep. It is good enough for kid’s school projects.

It works well wirelessly, once it is set up.

I bought it because it was wireless and cheap. It is no faster than the USB HP PSC all-in-one that it replaced, and the photo printing color is worse. But you get what you pay for, and I paid only a little. If you want high quality photo printing, seek professional help, or spend more on your printer.

I’ve been using Canon printers for many years now, and this is the best so far. I bought the wireless because it had all the features I wanted at the price I wanted to pay(not because I needed a wireless printer). Text is very clear and sharp. Pictures look good even on regular paper. I like the top being closed as my cat sits on the printer and the closed top keeps the cat hair out. Service from Amazon, as usual, was exceptional.

I never could get the scanner to work, but printed nicely. Runs through ink a little quicker than it should. But none of that matters… the thing died today; now I am stuck with a bunch of ink and no printer!!!

  18. David Fajen Says:

    No Fax
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’m sure the confusion was all mine, but I thought all-in-one would include the ability to send a fax. I guess I was mistaken. Everything else works quite well. Setup was straight forward if you follow instructions well.

My wife was able to print with no intro help at all. I think I purchased the wrong printer as I would like to be able to fax and do not really need the high quality photo capability this printer has.

  19. Gulabau Says:

    You can’t print draft quality
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The most irritating thing about this printer is that it doesn’t offer a choice of print quality modes. You can’t select a grayscale-only or low-intensity ink-saving printout. It’s full quality or nothing. That’s really obnoxious if you need a lot of hard copies of draft material, or if you want to print something disposable like a one-use recipe, or driving directions to a place, or a grocery list, etcetera.

Setup was not easy on Mac running the Snow Leopard operating system. I had to go online to download two printing drivers, the scanning driver, and the photocopy driver, each separately. The computer had to be restarted several times and there were various steps in which the printer had to be on and the computer had to be off or vice -versa, the USB cable could not be attached — I don’t remember, I just remember that it was a stupid rigamarole that took me over an hour.

The paper supply is not versatile. The printer tells you that you can choose what sort of paper you want to load into what input source — there is an upright rack in the back and a cassette drawer in the front. But the manual says that photo paper *must* go in the cassette and regular paper *must* go in the upright rack. This annoys me because I’d like to collapse the rack, which gets in the way on my desk-side table, and just use the cassette drawer for my regular paper, replacing it with photo paper when needed. The manual apparently failed to be comprehensive, as there are pieces of paper with instruction errata taped to the printer and packing material when you open the box. Some of them have cryptic illustrations.

Setting the thing up to work wirelessly was a bother too. Maybe that is inevitable, maybe it isn’t. I lack experience with any other wireless printer.

It’s a bit slow but actually I like that. Fast printers tend to be noisy, and bang themselves to death too soon, or migrate slowly across the table top. I am quite content with a slightly slow printer that will do a high quality job and not be too noisy. This one qualifies. It isn’t really quiet but it isn’t obnoxiously loud either.

In short, it is not versatile enough and it is annoying but works well within its limits.

    Works Well
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Works very well. Copies are quick and I love the fact it is wireless. My only problem is that I’ve had 3 paper jams since I purchased the copier. (I never had a paper jam in my old Canon copier.) Other than that, I love it.

    Good but Too “Fragile”…
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I used three HP printers before. I decided to try something new, so I bought Canon. This printer is good and the printing quality is way much better than HP’s with the same price range. However, the printing speed is a bit slow..but that’s not a big problem for me. The big problem is this printer is too “fragile.” It can easily get paper jam, even by a tiny piece of paper…I got this printer for only a month. On last Saturday, it kept showing Error 6000 on the screen when I was printing lecture notes. I googled the error code and found out it was something about paper jam in the roller. (but I didn’t see any thing stuck inside from any aspect and angle…) I tried many ways and googled for solutions, but all the solutions didn’t solve my problem, and now I need to send my printer to service station to fix the problem…and when I googled for the solutions, I saw many people have the same problem for canon’s printers…so I think it is a problem that buyer should be aware of…

I am very much a novice but recently retired so beginning to get into tech. I put the cart before the horse as I do not yet own a digital camera (my Christmas present to myself when prices are best) but wanted a new printer to go with my new Macbook. I’m am totally wireless. Set up my router and printer with very minor “think things through moments”. I found the printer easy to unpack and set up. The wireless part was a breeze. Printing and copying are excellent. I am pleased with Amazon’s price and service and with my printer.

This is another perfect product from Canon. And, unfortunately, as usually – ink cartridges. Going out of ink pretty fast, original cartridges are very expensive. There is no proportion between cost of the printer and cost of the cartridges. This is the major drawback of Canon product. Everything else – works as expected.

Canon MP620 Wireless All in One Photo Printer
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The price was very good. The setup was easier than I expected given the complexity of the instructions. (We use the printer with a wireless connection to the router and two wireless laptops.) The system seems to work well, with no hitches.

While the quality of plain paper printouts of web pages and documents was fine, I was disappointed in the color photographs, which seemed to lack brightness and saturation, particularly in the blue and cyan. I tried several stratagems to compensate, but never achieved the excellence of my Canon IP 4000 printer. Maybe it is a shortcoming of the new color inks used by the MP620.

    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I recently purchased this printer on a whim and am glad I did. I have had horrible experiences with the (last generation) of printers and expected more of the same with this printer. I am glad that I was so wrong. Photo prints that are hard to distinguish from ‘real’ film prints.

    Very good printer.

Wireless setup was not nearly as easy as other here suggest. The manual is horrible, not worth the paper its written on. After an hour or two of swearing I managed to get everything working properly. This needs a ‘quick start’ poster, not some choose your own adventure manual.

Works great on my wireless network and I couldn’t be happier in the end.

After my wireless Lexmark went belly up I spent a good time researching a replacement printer that had all the features I needed plus it needed to be wireless. I’ve bought Canon printers in the past and have been happy with them and this one didn’t let me down. Now if you open the packaging and look at the install manual it can quite daunting. I skipped that and used the install CD instead and it walked you through the whole process. The software took a bit to install but I went without a hitch. I entered in my router info and presto…I was up and going. The wireless printing is faster than what I had expected. Overall very pleased and looks like I’ll be having this for quite awhile.

    5 STARS WITH A COUPLE OF CAVEATS…
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars

First let me thank AMAZON and the AMAZON COMMUNITY for helping me get into this excellent product at such a low cost.

Like most people using PC’s, I have gone thru the initial and continued frustrations of purchasing & maintaining home and/or small office printers/scanners/copiers. But keeping things in proper perspective, I can remember being invited to a demonstration of a “new” concept called “desktop publishing” that was hosted by a firm in Charleston, SC back in the early 80′s. They had a lot of really whiz-bang stuff that would indeed allow an individual to publish some pretty nice stuff right from a desktop computer set-up…

…but did I mention that all of the peripherals took up the better part of a standard-sized room and the entire outfit cost about 30K!?

Of course, having seen that demo, at that point in time, I began to somewhat keenly, if conservatively, keep up with the technology without taking the heavy economic hits of being an “early adopter” of any given great advance in computer technology.

So for the rest of you out there who have a similar strategy, let me say that, IMO, with this product, wireless printing – which I now view as a lifestyle necessity – has arrived.

    MOVING ON FROM HP…

About ten years ago, after trying several brands of printers, we became a HP household and the machines we will be replacing with the Canon products [this one and the MP490 probably] were the PSC 1200/1300 series of all-in-ones. Overall those machines served us well but I found the OEM ink to be too expensive and the aftermarket ink to be unsatisfactory. Additionally, HP seemed to get greedier and greedier and their software more and more intrusive. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when they somehow managed to do an automatic update on me and it completely changed the interface for the OCR function, –throwing me into the decision of either learning the new OCR interface or moving on from HP; –which I am doing.

And largely because I want to have a much less intrusive, and streamlined, relationship with my printer/copier/scanner, while preserving the excellent functionality I have come to expect, the Canon line of wi-fi machines is where I am headed. Indeed, I can now do for 400-500 dollars and a lot less hassle what had cost 30K in 1983-4! Thanks Canon!

    THE CAVEATS:

OWNER/INSTALLATION MANUALS NEED IMPROVING AND I HAD TO USE A USB CABLE TO GET THE PRIMARY MACHINE FUNCTIONING WITH THE ALL-IN-ONE.

–I could not get the unit installed on my primary machine without hooking up a USB cable. Maybe it could be done but I wasn’t able to decipher the rather extensive and, IMO, sometimes contradictory instructions. However, the sailing was pretty smooth once I swallowed my pride and went to the USB method and the machine – and our other two Windows XP Pro machines – one a laptop and the other a desktop – have functioned flawlessly wirelessly so far.

–The installation CD ROM walks you thru setup on the additional machines on your network quite easily.

Hope this helps someone out in their buying decision; thanks again to Amazon and their “back-fence” crowd who help making wise buying decisions a pleasure.

A final note: while I am very pleased with this product and enthusiastic about Canon’s product line, if they become abusive of our relationship I will be back at Amazon [or Amazon's competition] finding out who delivers and who doesn’t.
