Not as good as some have posted
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this printer for about 3 years now. I hate buy new printers because there expensive and you don’t know what your going to get. I researched before I bought and wound up with this. It was highly recommended. Why can’t any printer company sell a bullet proof printer? Now I’m back researching.
This printer has issues with ink. I don’t print much and everytime I use it there’s an issue. Ink is WAY to expensive and if you even try to recieve a fax or print a B&W document and a color cartridge is low, forget about printing anything. I just defaults and doesn’t do a thing till you get a new one. Can’t even trick it into thinking theres a new one in there. Faxing? As previous poster said it has issuses. If you like to fax stuff don’t bother with this one. After about 6 months it’s been making this god awful noise with gears grinding. Thought for sure it would break but, it keeps going. The search continues…

18 months before problems
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this printer in Sept 07 and have loved it until the past 2 months. It is a real plus that the ink tanks are all separate so that there is no waste of ink as in the “tricolor tanks”. The disappointing change is that it is printing a black racing stripe on the back of the sheets. Sometimes this is as wide as 1/2″. I am reading that this is a common problem with this model and takes 2-3 hours of time to dismantle the machine, clean it and re-assemble everything. I have run all of the cleaning functions but still have the stripe. Otherwise, it has been a great multi-funtional printer. As soon as I use up my ink cartridges I will be moving to another Canon printer.

Canon MP530: An all-in-one with FANTASTIC photo quality
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had the MP530 for two years, and I absolutely love it! I am a freelance photographer, so I wanted something that could produce excellent photo prints. I am also a musician, and I print my own promotional materials, which again requires excellent print quality. I also needed at least an average-quality scanner and I have limited space. That’s why I went with an all-in-one, but my main concern was photo quality:
I can honestly say that the MP530 prints better photos than Wal-Mart! Wal-Mart’s photo printers probably cost something like $30,000. The MP530 costs $100-$150, and with high quality photo paper, it does a better job! I only know this because I did a test: I printed six 4×6 photographs on the MP530, and I also ordered prints of the same six shots from Wal-Mart. My personal opinion was that the MP530’s shots were better. Then I showed all the prints to my friends and family, and I asked them to pick which ones they thought were better, and also which ones they thought were done by me at home and which were done by Wal-Mart. I referred to each copy as “A” or “B”. “A” was the MP530 prints, but I didn’t tell anyone that. Non one knew which was which. EVERYONE picked all the “A” copies as the better prints, and EVERYONE thought that the “A” copies were from Wal-Mart! When I told them that they were actually printed at home on the MP530, they were all very surprised. I should mention that I used the Canon Glossy photo paper that came included in the printer box. I should also mention that some of the participants were graphic designers and photographers, and everyone participated separately, not as a group.
As far as the scanner goes, I don’t use it often, but when I do, I get great results. I’m sure there are other scanners that are better, but I have scanned 4×6 photographs, cropped and resized them to 8×10, then ordered huge prints at 16×20 and I have been very happy with the results.
The copier works great, too. Fast, sharp copies with the push of one button. What more could you want?
I only used the fax once. The process was easy once I read the manual and set it up properly. I may never need to use the fax again, but it’s nice to know it’s there if I need it.
The ink lasts as long as other printers, if not longer. The ability to change individual colors is supposed to save you money, and I think it does, but not enough to make a huge difference. The ink is expensive, but that goes for all printers, doesn’t it? It’s worth it, though. Canon says it won’t fade for 100 years and I believe them, because my prints have been exposed to sunlight for two years are there is absolutely no sign of fading. I would never use off-brand ink because the color probably won’t be accurate, it will probably fade or smear, and it might damage the printer, so what would be the point?
In the two years I’ve owned this printer, it has never taken more than one sheet at time (my HP printer always did that), and I’ve never had a paper jam, except for once, when I tried to feed a sheet of card stock with two severely damaged corners. But if that sheet only had ONE damaged corner, I’m sure the MP530 could’ve handled it.
If you want a printer that makes absolutely flawless photographs, buy the MP530 and get the scanner, copier and fax as a bonus. I really don’t see how any stand-alone photo printer could print any better than this.

Cannon MP530 GOOD Printer, BAD FAX machine!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
WARNING! Before you invest in this machine you need to be aware that this printer has a serious “ink low” problem. When any of the ink cartridges are getting low on ink, even if there is a lot of ink left, the printer stops printing Fax’s automaticaly. Instead of printing your faxes as they arrive, it puts them into memory, which requires a multi-step procedure to retrieve and then delete from memory the FAX documents.
Also be aware that you CANNOT refill these ink cartridges! Cannon has programed the small computer chip on each ink cartridge so that it decides when the ink is low. Even if you refill it, the chip still reports that ink is low! This causes all kinds of problems in printing, copying, faxing, etc. I haven’t found any generic cartridges that work!!
I would buy any other All-In-One Printer except Cannon. Believe me, I’m not saying this just to get back at Cannon. I’m trying to save others the grief and regret of investing in this machine.
The only good thing is that the print quality is above average.
By the way, if anyone is interested, my Cannon MP530 is for sale, cheap!

Hard-working, affordable printer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this printer for my daughter as a gift because I’ve owned the same one for about a year (buying the Canon to replace my old Epson which just stopped without reason one day). I have printed everything from draft documents to color photos with great results. As well, I’ve used the scanning and copying features quite often. I especially like this printer because the color ink cartridges are separate (so you only have to change the one color which has run out versus the entire ink cartridge). The only thing which took a couple times to get used to is all the noises it makes when you first send something to print, but other than that, I highly recommend the Canon Pixma MP530!

And then it stopped printing (operator error)
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This unit was delivered September 12, 2008. It is March 9th, 2009 and the printer has stopped printing. I cleaned, deep cleaned and aligned heads and nothing. CS had me do the same thing when after two calls I got through. They could not figure out the problem so are going to send me a new ink tank that would take a week. Up until today I was generally satisfied with this multi printer except for the units excessive need for ink. Since time was critical I pulled off the ink tank and cleaned it and still no go. When I was putting the ink cartridges back in I saw that I had left on the yellow tape that covers the prime hole on the top of the black cartridge. Once I took that off the printer starting working fine.

canon mp530
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Canon MP530 multifunction device works well.
I have two minor complaints:
.I had to download VISTA drivers from Canon’s web site. Canon did include a flyer about Vista support, so it is unnecessary to call Canon.
.The paper feeders have some slack to them (rear and top), and therefore one needs to be somewhat careful inserting paper.
.The Canon MP530 is somewhat heavy and bulky.
While I do not intended to use the fax function, it worked well. I had an adapter cable for my cell phone, and sent a few faxes.
The copier works well. The printer works well.
The bundled software is adequate, but there are many third party software products available, including several free products.
The Canon MP530 does not use photo grade inks, but the resolution and clarity are very good.
I was looking for an economical machine for ink usage. I found software to print black and white with an option to gray scale.
I have not tested this device for wireless operation.

Not Working Yet
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This product has yet to work properly. When it arrived, one of the color cartridges had a broken tab. The LCD was set in German. It failed immediately with a flashing alarm light and a “check printer” on the LCD. Canon support shipped me a replacement promptly. I bought a cartridge locally to replace the one with a broken tab. The replacement printer scanner fax worked very well for one week. One morning I turned it on and the alarm light was flashing and the “check printer” message was on the LCD. I contacted Canon support and they thought a full printer cartridge replacement might fix the problem. That didn’t fix the problem, so they are sending me a second replacement. Canon support has been outstanding. I think I am just a victim of bad luck. I’m waiting for the second replacement to arrive this week.
It is now April 9. The second replacement arrived. I have been using the printer and scanner now for one month and am satisfied with the quality of the color and clarity of the pictures printed by this machine. Hats off to Canon Support!

Good printer, but goes through ink like CRAZY.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This printer does everything you want it to do, but it seems like every other day the ink is “low”. If you try to push it and wait till the ink is totally gone, it will get to a point where it will not print because it says the ink is out (you can’t even choose to print in grayscale when one of the colors is out. No ink, no print, no way). And when you go to replace the ink, it still appears to have enough to print (probably 1/4 full!). This is a real hassle, and has caused me to really resent this purchase.
My only other problem with it is that you cannot turn off the beeps. I have yet to find any setting on it anywhere to turn it off. I used it for a time as a fax machine and the faxes will not come without beeping. Getting faxes in the middle of the night at a home office is sure to wake you up (very annoying if you have fax spammers! And you can’t block the numbers!).
Honestly, I liked my old HP better. I only upgraded to have the ability to print pictures well, but with the ink problem, there’s no way I am going to be doing that – it would cost too much in ink!!

Not perfect, but the best I’ve owned.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had my Pixma for about a year. It has not been a carefree year, but pretty close.
Let me start out by saying that the support Canon provides is EXCELLENT. I get emails returned within hours of sending them.
Here are some things I like about the MP530:
* It’s very easy to use. There are a minimum number of button pushes to do even complex stuff, like FAX settings. The menus are intuitive. The manual is clearly written
* Color on glossy paper is photo-quality. If you print color on standard paper, you need to set the quality to highest or you will get some lines.
* You can over-ride the ink-tank empty message. Non-Canon ink works fine if you can get the ink safely into the tanks (see below). You can buy non-chipped generic tanks and just move the little chip over from the Cannon tank.
* You can send FAXs from other networked computers (kewl!).
Stuff that’s a pain:
* Ink. In order to fill the Canon tanks, you have to use a special tool the ink company will send you to remove a little plastic ball which is on the top of the tank under the label. It’s doable and actually not difficult ONCE you get the hang of it. Once it is out you pray the rubber stopper seals properly or the tank will leak. If the stopper holds, which 4 out of five of mine did, you’re golden from then on. This whole process is not for the faint-of-heart. Another option is to buy either chipped or non-chipped tanks. Non-chipped tanks (half the cost) require a chip transplant which is not hard to do. Occasional (maybe once a month) error messages saying your tanks may be empty. Not a big deal. Of course you could make Canon happy by simply buying their ink, but what fun is that?
* The scanner software is a bit clunky and stupid. I’m not sure what a serious scanning person would do. Buy alternative software? I don’t mind it though.
Over-all a damn fine printer!!! It copies great, scans great, prints great and FAXs great.

Good printer uses ink very quickly even for black-and-white
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I really like the printer in terms of a multi-function device, and it would get 5 starts except for what appears to be a bug (or marketing feature) — black-and-white printing in duplex mode still uses the color cartridges. That means either you need to use twice the paper or blow through a lot of very expensive ink for simple documents or faxes. So if you run out of one of the color cartridges you can no longer print b&w docs – period. It’s a serious shortcoming of the printer.
I would seriously investigate other printers before buying this one again.

Avoid this scam
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This printer worked fine for about a year. But every time it cleans the print head it dumps about 5 print pages worth of ink into an inaccessible receptacle in the chassis. So when the receptacle is full, one of the bottom rollers picks up the ink, painting a big black stripe on the back of each page. And after you use the bottom cleaning function, it immediately dumps more ink, filling it up again! This is deliberate, malicious built-in sabotage, forcing you to buy a new machine. A repair shop said it would cost more to take it apart and clean it than it would to replace it. Better idea: don’t buy it in the first place.

Had two- both broke.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This printer is terrible! The first one I bought showed an error message that was not only incorrect (it said there was a missing ink cartridge when all were properly installed) but could not be cleared. Canon had me send it to them and in return they sent me a refurbished unit. The refurbished unit does not scan properly. The scanner gets “stuck” after about 2/3 of the page and the unit must be turned off and turned back on to resume printing. The result is a copy (or scan) that is muddled and blurry on one side.
The really terrible thing about the “new” unit is the noise it makes when the cartridges return to the original position after printing. It sound like the buzzing of a child’s wind-up toy, only 100 times louder, and lasts 15 seconds. I cannot make a phone call or carry on a conversation while printing for this reason.
The only good point: it did print well for about a week before breaking!

Horrible Printer. Do not Buy!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This printer uses color ink whenever you print in B&W. This sucks up your ink and makes the quality not as good as it could be. Supposedly this only happens in duplex mode, but that is why I bought this printer.
Then if any color cartridge is empty, you cannot print at all.
This is just a scam to get you to buy more ink because once empty you cannot refill the ink.
Do not buy as this is a horrible scam.

Canon MP530 Review
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like the Canon MP530 though there are still many features I don’t know how to use. It’s much bigger than I thought it would be but fortunately not too big for the space I have. Makes great images and is faster than my very old HP printer. I’m still not sure what to do about the cartridges when I’ll need one; which shouldn’t be for some time as I don’t use it every day. I’ve read reviews about the quality and expense of buying cartridges from you or elsewhere. So far we’re enjoying it and have no complaints about this purchase.
Thank you,

I guess I was unlucky
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
It seems as though many people have had luck with this printer, I guess I was one of the unlucky ones.
In approximately a month after purchase, there was a plastic grinding noise that really didn’t affect the print quality, but was extremely loud; others have had this problem, I found.
After about a year of dealing with that obnoxious noise, I was repeatedly told that one of my ink tanks was installed incorrectly (XP told me that there were two Cyan cartridges installed). This affected any functionality that the printer had, and I could not use it for anything. If you’re wondering, I purchased Canon brand cartridges and did not attempt to refill them, they just did not work anymore.
Now, the printer is a gigantic obstacle on my desk, and if I feel like tinkering and poking and prodding at things for about an hour I might be able to get it to print one page. It is effectively worthless after swallowing nearly $300.
My opinion, it sounds like a number of people have had great results with this printer, but there have been a lot of negative reviews all around the net. If you have something else in mind, I would probably recommend thinking twice before picking this up. You might get one of the good ones, or you might end up like me: taking satisfaction that you got to type out some frustrations which like 5 people might read.

Poor quality photo printing & lots of ink problems
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I have experienced nothing but hassles with my Canon 580 since I bought it. I’d hardly used the printer when the indicator said I needed to “check ink.” It doesn’t *always* say that, but it does again now, and it won’t even let me scan a document because I need to “check ink” again — though no ink is necessary for creating a digital file!! I’ve also been very disappointed with the quality of photo prints it produces. I wish I’d ignored Consumer Reports and gotten another HP all-in-one…

Lasts until the warranty is expired
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ve owned this printer for about 1 1/2 years. Worked great for that period of time. Recently received an error message. Much research on the error message, but it appears the main drive belt the ink slides on has been stretched out so it doesn’t work any longer. Kind of a bummer after only 1 1/2 years. . .

Excellent Machine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
What an amazing machine.
Pros:
Well built, 5 ink cartridges (change only what you need), AIO function, duplexing (2 side printing), 2 paper trays (can load different paper types on each tray) and color copy.
Cons:
It is not wireless or network-ready (but for this price, what did you expect?).
Comments: Installation went very smooth in 3 laptops, never crashed. But it took about 15 minutes on each; I thought this to be a little too long. Specifically, I bought this machine because of the duplex function and it never disappointed me; I did not have any significant paper jams. I have also used the scanner and xerox function and I never found anything at fault.
In summary: I am very satisfied and I expect it to last several more years.

Good MFC device for the price
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have had the Canon MP530 now for 2 years and it still works well. The only thing I don’t like about is that is goes through ink cartridges very fast. I have worked around this by printing in lower quality when I can. One time the MPC530 was giving me an ink low alarm for the magenta ink cartridge even though the cartridge was full. I replaced the cartridge and it now works fine so it was probably a problem with the cartridge, annoying but problem solved. The scanning and faxing options work very well. The device is easy to use and easy to set up.

Great Printer, but bigger than I expected
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have been using this printer/all in one for about two months now and it is great. It prints, copies, and scans with great precision. I was suprised when I got it at how big it was, but it does not really bother me now. If you are looking for a compact all in one, this is not for you. I have it sitting on a file cabinet and it hangs over the sides.

It works like a $300 machine, but it costs $100. Canon is doing good work
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It scans very nicely. It copies a bit crooked but fast and sharp and photos are good enough for framing – I framed a bunch. Maybe the color accuracy isn’t as good as a $200 dedicated photo printer, but I also don’t give a d*mn. Prints are fast and clear and color is good and it always seems to work right away without a cleaning or a re-setting or re-screwing-around. I appreciate that.

FAX Function SUX!!!! BAD!!! Really, Really BAD!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The scanner is greast, does duplex, multi sheet. Awesome. Printer is also very good, except that ink is expensive. My problem with this machine, and I will be replacing it as soon as I have a little extra money, is that the FAX feature absolutely SUX!!!!!!!!! Beyond Belief!!!! There are no instructions in the manual for other than the most basic fax operations, no instructions online, and when you finally take the time to reach a tech support person, they get sarcastic with you. You would think faxing would be pretty basic and simple, but like another reviewer on here stated, once an ink cartridge gets low, all faxes dump into memory instead of printing. Figuring out how to get them out of memory is very, very challenging. There are different methods for getting a received fax out of memory than for getting a sent fax out, which is a whole nother set of frustrating issues. I’m sitting here, trying to receive one fax, someone else has tied up my machine with a fax they tried to send, I can’t figure out how to send their fax or delete it, and I can’t receive mine until their’s is out of the way. I’m ready to beat this thing to death with a baseball bat, I’m so stressed out over the stupidity of the FAX funtion. How could you possibly make faxing difficult. It’s almost as if they went out of their way to design stupid steps into faxing, and then laughed as they just didn’t bother to put any instructions anywhere. None, not in the manual, not in the users guide, not online. NO Where are there instructions on how to use the fax features of this machine. Thank God I don’t need to fax often. Although the rest of this machine is pretty good, because of the fax problems, I would Highly Recommend that you DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!!!!!!!! REally. I mean it. It SUX. I hope this helps.

Fantastic Printer!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I only just installed and started using this printer — (was waiting to use up every drop of the ink in my last and final Epson printer) — and I really love it. It’s a very high-quality piece of equipment at a low price. I love that it has a second paper cassette, meaning I don’t have to manually change paper types, and a feed switch right on the front that tells it which paper tray to use. The printer is quiet, prints wonderfully, and I am extremely happy with it. I haven’t hooked up the fax yet — and I probably won’t because I always seem to conflicts between phone lines/answering machines/DSL/fax operations. But no matter, because I rarely send faxes anymore and never receive them. They could do away with that function on this machine and I’d still be extremely happy with it.
I love its other functions as well — reduce/enlarge, image and exposure quality, and the two-sided printing. These are features usually reserved for far more expensive printers. So I’m happy as a clam!

Cheap can still be good!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought my Canon MP530 all in one printer/scanner/FAX/copier for a little over $100.00 brand new. The thing is great and incredibly easy to figure out how to use. The initial setup is a little trick so FOLLOW THE DIRECTION TO THE T. Text prints really fast and the scan quality of images is pretty good. There’s even some auto correction features you can click on in real time while previewing a scan. I’ve had it for almost 2 years and I’ve only replaced the color cartridges twice and the black about four times. The only thing it won’t do is large format, but no worries, I have a Canon S9000 that does a beautiful job of that, too. I also Noticed that the Canon’s aren’t as loud and clunky sounding as the HP printers. I give it a six out of five!

Multi-function printer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was mostly looking for a scanner/printer that was under a hundred dollars when I found this product. My only criteria were that it shouldn’t be an HP (as I can’t stand all of their tie-in software) and I wanted it to be a good brand rather than a shovelproduct producer (Epson?)
Again all I was looking for was a printer/scanner but when I got this guy in the mail I was pleasantly surprised at the number features it had. First of all be warned, this thing is a monolith. I mean it’s big. I put it on a stand next to my computer and it looks like an altar of technological worship. BUT, if you don’t mind the size the things got some nice bonuses. There’s a fax machine (irrelevant for me) as well as a bulk scanner. A little tray in the top opens up and you can put a pile of paper in there and it’ll suck it through and bring them up as individual files on the computer. This moves our household a little bit more towards paperless living. We’ve just taken to scanning in bills and documents to save and then archiving them to a disk and shredding the paper.
There’s also a handy copier feature built in as well as a photo tray for printing with photo paper. It has MANY small individual color catridges…6 I think? No doubt that will be where my money will go to actually pay for all of these handy dandy features.
Still though that’s the trap of everyone inkjet. If you’re going cheap, this is a great printer to look into.
