Multi-function printer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was mostly looking for a scanner/printer that was under a hundred dollars when I found this product. My only criteria were that it shouldn't be an HP (as I can't stand all of their tie-in software) and I wanted it to be a good brand rather than a shovelproduct producer (Epson?)

Again all I was looking for was a printer/scanner but when I got this guy in the mail I was pleasantly surprised at the number features it had. First of all be warned, this thing is a monolith. I mean it's big. I put it on a stand next to my computer and it looks like an altar of technological worship. BUT, if you don't mind the size the things got some nice bonuses. There's a fax machine (irrelevant for me) as well as a bulk scanner. A little tray in the top opens up and you can put a pile of paper in there and it'll suck it through and bring them up as individual files on the computer. This moves our household a little bit more towards paperless living. We've just taken to scanning in bills and documents to save and then archiving them to a disk and shredding the paper.

There's also a handy copier feature built in as well as a photo tray for printing with photo paper. It has MANY small individual color catridges...6 I think? No doubt that will be where my money will go to actually pay for all of these handy dandy features.

Still though that's the trap of everyone inkjet. If you're going cheap, this is a great printer to look into.

Cheap can still be good!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought my Canon MP530 all in one printer/scanner/FAX/copier for a little over $100.00 brand new. The thing is great and incredibly easy to figure out how to use. The initial setup is a little trick so FOLLOW THE DIRECTION TO THE T. Text prints really fast and the scan quality of images is pretty good. There's even some auto correction features you can click on in real time while previewing a scan. I've had it for almost 2 years and I've only replaced the color cartridges twice and the black about four times. The only thing it won't do is large format, but no worries, I have a Canon S9000 that does a beautiful job of that, too. I also Noticed that the Canon's aren't as loud and clunky sounding as the HP printers. I give it a six out of five!

Fantastic Printer!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I only just installed and started using this printer -- (was waiting to use up every drop of the ink in my last and final Epson printer) -- and I really love it. It's a very high-quality piece of equipment at a low price. I love that it has a second paper cassette, meaning I don't have to manually change paper types, and a feed switch right on the front that tells it which paper tray to use. The printer is quiet, prints wonderfully, and I am extremely happy with it. I haven't hooked up the fax yet -- and I probably won't because I always seem to conflicts between phone lines/answering machines/DSL/fax operations. But no matter, because I rarely send faxes anymore and never receive them. They could do away with that function on this machine and I'd still be extremely happy with it.

I love its other functions as well -- reduce/enlarge, image and exposure quality, and the two-sided printing. These are features usually reserved for far more expensive printers. So I'm happy as a clam!

FAX Function SUX!!!! BAD!!! Really, Really BAD!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The scanner is greast, does duplex, multi sheet. Awesome. Printer is also very good, except that ink is expensive. My problem with this machine, and I will be replacing it as soon as I have a little extra money, is that the FAX feature absolutely SUX!!!!!!!!! Beyond Belief!!!! There are no instructions in the manual for other than the most basic fax operations, no instructions online, and when you finally take the time to reach a tech support person, they get sarcastic with you. You would think faxing would be pretty basic and simple, but like another reviewer on here stated, once an ink cartridge gets low, all faxes dump into memory instead of printing. Figuring out how to get them out of memory is very, very challenging. There are different methods for getting a received fax out of memory than for getting a sent fax out, which is a whole nother set of frustrating issues. I'm sitting here, trying to receive one fax, someone else has tied up my machine with a fax they tried to send, I can't figure out how to send their fax or delete it, and I can't receive mine until their's is out of the way. I'm ready to beat this thing to death with a baseball bat, I'm so stressed out over the stupidity of the FAX funtion. How could you possibly make faxing difficult. It's almost as if they went out of their way to design stupid steps into faxing, and then laughed as they just didn't bother to put any instructions anywhere. None, not in the manual, not in the users guide, not online. NO Where are there instructions on how to use the fax features of this machine. Thank God I don't need to fax often. Although the rest of this machine is pretty good, because of the fax problems, I would Highly Recommend that you DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!!!!!!!! REally. I mean it. It SUX. I hope this helps.

It works like a $300 machine, but it costs $100. Canon is doing good work
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It scans very nicely. It copies a bit crooked but fast and sharp and photos are good enough for framing - I framed a bunch. Maybe the color accuracy isn't as good as a $200 dedicated photo printer, but I also don't give a d*mn. Prints are fast and clear and color is good and it always seems to work right away without a cleaning or a re-setting or re-screwing-around. I appreciate that.

Great Printer, but bigger than I expected
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have been using this printer/all in one for about two months now and it is great. It prints, copies, and scans with great precision. I was suprised when I got it at how big it was, but it does not really bother me now. If you are looking for a compact all in one, this is not for you. I have it sitting on a file cabinet and it hangs over the sides.

Good MFC device for the price
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have had the Canon MP530 now for 2 years and it still works well. The only thing I don't like about is that is goes through ink cartridges very fast. I have worked around this by printing in lower quality when I can. One time the MPC530 was giving me an ink low alarm for the magenta ink cartridge even though the cartridge was full. I replaced the cartridge and it now works fine so it was probably a problem with the cartridge, annoying but problem solved. The scanning and faxing options work very well. The device is easy to use and easy to set up.

Excellent Machine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
What an amazing machine.
Pros:
Well built, 5 ink cartridges (change only what you need), AIO function, duplexing (2 side printing), 2 paper trays (can load different paper types on each tray) and color copy.

Cons:
It is not wireless or network-ready (but for this price, what did you expect?).

Comments: Installation went very smooth in 3 laptops, never crashed. But it took about 15 minutes on each; I thought this to be a little too long. Specifically, I bought this machine because of the duplex function and it never disappointed me; I did not have any significant paper jams. I have also used the scanner and xerox function and I never found anything at fault.

In summary: I am very satisfied and I expect it to last several more years.

Lasts until the warranty is expired
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I've owned this printer for about 1 1/2 years. Worked great for that period of time. Recently received an error message. Much research on the error message, but it appears the main drive belt the ink slides on has been stretched out so it doesn't work any longer. Kind of a bummer after only 1 1/2 years. . .
