Feature-packed printer seems to live up to hype
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It all started with a visit to our local retailer. The salesman heard “we’re thinking about an all-in-one but not seriously” and actually impressed us by showing off the Epson Artisan 810. We like our Epson R380, but it drinks gallons of expensive ink, and I can’t get the Macs on our network to talk through the Windows XP machine to the printer.

Shopping on Amazon (and elsewhere) online, we found the WorkForce 600. It has 4 ink cartridges, not 6, and they are DuraBrite, not Claria, ink which seems cheaper. There are high capacity cartridges available, and black has a double-wide extra capacity version. Like the Artisan, it’s wireless and so presumably Mac and Windows friendly.

It arrived yesterday and the setup instructions were quite clear. Setting up wireless devices hasn’t always gone smoothly for me, but this was anxiety-free. It just worked. The setup program is made from some Flash-like product–I don’t know why they do that–and seems to think you’re going to sit at one computer running this setup for lots of printers, rather than set up one printer on lots of computers, but nevermind…it worked.

Installing the drivers on three Windows machines (XP and Vista) and two Macs (OS X) took longer than I would have liked, but it was easy and successful.

The black and white printing speed is amazing–including b&w copies. I copied a full-color magazine ad and was very impressed with the quality, including color rendition. The front panel is intuitive–my teenager needed a copy before I had a chance to lecture about the new printer. She just walked up and made a copy.

And lastly, we tested the DuraBrite ink by splashing water on the color magazine ad copy. The ink doesn’t run. The paper gets wet, but it’s still readable. Oh, and our photos on bright white plain paper look really good. The colors “pop.”

With the lightweight plastic machine just a day old, I can’t speak to reliability, but the features and setup are A+, especially for this reasonable price.

The first unit suddenly quit picking up incoming fax calls within 6 weeks of purchase. I had made no changes to wiring or set-up. I followed all the trouble shooting tips to the letter, nothing. By the way, do NOT use Epson’s e-mail support. They will send you instructions to use trouble shooting tips in the manual, which I had already done, and close your issue out as “resolved.” Oh? Really? I called tech support. After being on the phone (it’s not an 800 number, by the way) for over an hour and re-hashing all the trouble shooting tips a second time, they finally agreed it was a hardware problem. Duh. They shipped a new machine which doesn’t do ANYTHING, copy, fax, scan or print. Get something else!

I have owned many printers. All for a lot more money than the WorkForce600. Set up was very easy. Wireless connection very easy. I also set up a second computer with wireless to connect. very easy. Print quality as good as other printers I have owned. I have also used the scanner to scan documents. Very easy, does a good job. I have not used the fax, as I scan and then email, instead of faxing. Paperless is the way to go.

The comment that the printer stops printing when only one ink cartridge runs out, is the way most printers work. My HP did the same. For an all in one, at this price, this is the way to go.

Good machine, but many limitations for scanning
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I read all the reviews before buying this machine. It was replacing my Canon MX850 that met its early demise due to a lightning strike. Unfortunately, it does not live up to the legacy of my beloved Canon.

The printer is fine. The fax function is fine. It has some other cute functions, like printing stationery and graph paper and such. Wonderful. But what I use most is the scanner with ADF. That’s where this machine falls on its sword. Well, actually, most of the blame goes to the software. The only real hardware limitation is the document guide in the ADF. You can set it for letter, or slide it down as narrow as A4. But that leaves a lot of common documents out of the mix. If you want to scan something that is narrower, such as an American Express statement, it will skew because there is nothing to guide it into the scanner. You can correct this with “Correct Document Skew” selection, but only select this when needed, because it REALLY slows down the scanner processing. And it doesn’t always work very well, either.

If you intend to scan various unrelated documents, do not buy this machine. You have two choices when you scan: 1) Save all pages to one file, or 2) Save each page individually as a file. So you can only set one file at a time on the ADF to scan, unless you have a bunch of single-page files.

And your file naming becomes quite cumbersome. You have to define the storage path and file name ahead of time, and if you want to scan a pile of pages and save them individually as files, they will all have the same file name. What changes on every file is a three-digit number appended to the end of the file. This cannot be changed. So instead of saving a file called “Baby’s Birth Certificate”, it will now be “Baby’s Birth Certificate011″. Or whatever the count might be at that time (it can be changed, but cannot be eliminated).

With my Canon, I could pile all my papers to scan onto the ADF, hit “Scan”, walk away for as long as I wished, and come back later and decide what to group together, in which order, and save those files wherever I wanted. Now I am tied to my scanning with a short leash, scanning one file at a time, renaming the file, then going to the next file. And if I don’t use the scanning function in some preset time (haven’t figured out the timeout value, yet), it will timeout and close. So if you scan something, but walk away before it’s done, it will come back and ask you if you want to cancel, edit, or save. If you don’t respond in some period of time (unknown), it will trash your scan and close, and you’ll have to start over again.

Not the most user friendly software, eh? And don’t think you can buy a commercial application to use instead – so far, there are no after-market applications that will work on this model.

    Good printer…when it shows up

This is about my fifth Epson and my third in use right now. I knew that the quality would be great from an Epson and I bought it specifically for the wireless connectivity and the speed. The latter is as advertised, but the former has been somewhat painful.

The quality is top-notch for standard b/w and/or color documents, both printed and copied. It is good but not great for photographs — about what I expected since it is not my primary photo-printer. However, when using thick, thin, or any kind of non-standard paper stock, the feed sticks. A LOT. I have tried printing on card stock and had 20 sheets go through as undetected or “misfeed” for every one sheet that makes it through. It also does not allow for these settings in the print dialog. I assume that means you’re not supposed to print anything non-standard that isn’t on Epson photo paper, which sucks.

The scanner works well and offers numerous quality options, and the full-color printer control panel is easy to walk through and save to a memory card. However, I have found that the “auto-detect” feature that is meant to only capture the size of the document being scanned is touchy and A) doesn’t pick up entire files and B) doesn’t detect multiple files well. It also doesn’t seem able to scan the entire glass area, so you need to make sure you’re scanning files that are smaller by about 15 percent. I have also never played with the “scan over wireless network” option because of numerous issues with wireless (see next paragraph) and because the interface for scanning over wireless is cumbersome.

The real disappointment with the printer has been the wireless. When it works, it’s great, but when it doesn’t it’s a huge hassle. I am on a Mac and it has been my experience that every time I make the remotest configuration change with my wireless network, this printer disappears and I can’t get it back without removing and reinstalling the printer drivers and other software. It’s happened probably half a dozen times, and each time I will try every method that the troubleshooting document describes (On/Off, check all wires, check connection, blah blah blah) only to have to start from scratch. It’s a huge pain and has wasted tons of my time.

I have a friend who bought a Brother and has had no problems. I’m not a fan of Brother’s print quality but for standard documents I am considering making the switch if this machine continues to waste my time.

    Nice professional printer
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Did a lot of research before buying, looked at: HP, Brother, Lexmark, Canon, Epson and others before coming back to the Epson Workforce 600. Kudos to Amazon for making it easy with customer reviews on all the models I evaluated. I was looking for a solid printer, scanner and copier—not so concerned about faxing or photos. Here’s my take on the WF600:

    Pro’s:

    Fool proof initial set-up.

    Prints great.

Prints really fast (even in the “quiet mode” which is my default setting).

    Ink cartridges load easily.

    Holds a lot of paper.

*NO* paper handling issues (jams, etc.)

Looks really great, professional, and is solidly built, especially in comparison to the “comparable” HP models I checked out at BestBuy.

    Cons:

Takes a while to get set-up (to be expected with a wireless network printer since you’ve got to load software on each PC that needs access the printer).

My main concern in reading other reviews was that some reviewers said it wouldn’t print at all if one of the color cartridges are low. I haven’t been able to check this out yet, but was satisfied that other reviewers mentioned it can easily be overcome with simple windows/printer settings.

I don’t write many reviews but am *very* satisfied with this purchase, especially compared to the experience I’ve had with my previous less costly HP printers. Probably overkill for use in our home, but I’m confident this will be a long term solution for our family.

I bought mine directly from Epson. They had the best price and the free delivery was very fast, plus you know you’re getting a printer that hasn’t sat on the shelf. Lastly it feels good to be done with HP.

This really is a great printer, copy, scanner. I didnt give it 5 stars because it eats and breathes ink. And if one color runs out, you cannot print at all, not even black and white. Still the print quality is fantastic. It prints and scans quickly. The wireless is great. DH hooked it up to both imac and several laptops and a pc desktop in the house.

I have had epson printers in times past and always enjoyed their great print quality…

This printer still holds true to those I have had in times past…

the ink for this one however seems a bit cheaper that some of the old ones though not by much…

and the print speed of the 600 also seems to have picked up for the same quality of prints i have done in times past…

so I am well pleased with this one…

since I do alot of traveling the small size too me made a big difference…

I had no trouble getting it set up and working with my older system on Windows XP…

I soon will be upgrading to a new computer system and Windows 7 so we will see what happens then…

    Great Printer… Expensive Ink!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The printer works great! It prints quickly, and the quality is good (not great, but it’s adequate for everyday/at home use and for offices that do not need to have high quality photos, etc.) I have not yet used it to fax.

The set up was a bit confusing, but you just have to fool around with it, because the directions can be a little less than clear.

So why did I give it 3/5 stars? Because it goes through ink like crazy! It printed fewer than 90 pages before I had to replace the black ink cartridge, and it’s already used about 1/3 or the colored ink… eventhough everything I’ve printed has been in black and white! At close to 30 dollars each, the cartridges are not cheap, and all things considered (cost of cartridge, combined with paper), this makes printing at home just about as much as printing at Kinkos; if not more!

You would be better off buying a more expensive laser printer, or an ink printer that doesn’t eat through black ink like it’s going out of style. You will actually be saving money in the long run because of the cost of cartridges.

After purchasing 2 other printers in the last year only to have them break down in there quality of print, I was looking for a printer that would have some longevity, hold to a higher standard of quality. PLUS the price was very affordable. The quality to the Espon does not even come close. I have been in love with my new Epson printer. The images are so crisp and clear. I use my printer for many projects such as: greeting cards, business cards, letters, reports, etc. The colors are GREAT! My purchase of the Epson has made my life so much easier.

I always felt Epson makes better printer and it once more proved my opinion. I have used several Epson printers. Two years ago I decided to try another named brand all-in-one because it has FAX. I regretted from day one I brought it. Sound like you are in print shop. Ink run out fast and cost me fortune for the last 2 years. Finally, it dead last month; it prints out invisible pages with brand new ink, which I spend $70 for. I should save that for the new printer.

I ordered the WorkForce 600 because it has FAX too and price is very affordable. And surprise it comes with Wireless (omg!) It takes no effort to set it up and I can put anywhere in my house now. The printer speed is very fast. It is flat bed but you can load a stack of document on the loader at top and one button copies all. It is very quiet, compact and looks high tech with the color LCD panel. I would recommend this printer. You pay less but get more then other higher end models.

We spent two hours on the phone with the Epson Help Line trying to get the WiFi feature to work with our Macs (a necessity for our application). I see from the reviews that at least one person was able to get Mac-Epson WiFi working so it is possible that we just had a defective model. The help people were clueless so we sent it back. It is a measure of the incompetence of Epson that they didn’t even inquire about why we were returning it. Epson made us pay for return shipping.

I like this printer so far. It works well with my Windows 7 RC desktop and XP Media Center laptop. The setup wasn’t the fastest, but before too long I had the ability to print and scan from all three of my home computers, fax, and backup documents to my memory stick. This is really a terrific set of capabilities, definitely does a good job with all three. Black and white documents practically shoot out the front. Much faster than my previous printer. Scan quality is excellent too. Get it. Don’t think about it any more, just get it.

I have had my Epson Workforce 600 for about 4 months or so. I still just LOVE it. I am a real estate agent and I cannot even explain how much time this little machine has saved me! I used to have to go to my office and fax documents all the time. Now? I simply scan it, save to a PDF, email to whoever I need to!

Actually, I still need to set up the fax on that, and that would help even more, but I haven’t taken the time to set up or pay for a fax number…. scanning is working just fine.

The only small thing I have to complain about is that it does take kind of a long time to scan more than a page or 2. If I have 5 or so pages, it seems to take quite a while. Other than that? I love, love, LOVE it! Great deal and SO worth the money. I has NEVER jammed on me in this entire amount of time – and that in itself seems like a miracle!

I was suckered in by the price. It is a fine machine except that it goes through ink VERY fast and it is not cheap. Once one of the ink cartridges runs out, it will not print anything even in black only mode. In fact, you can not scan or fax either.

The ink is not cheap and can not be refilled due to the chip in each cartridge. I’ve tried some comercially available refilled cartridges but they did not work.

If cost is no object, then this is a great machine. Keep plenty of ink on-hand.

We bought this product in November and we were able to use it until June. Then it was time to change the ink. Apparently it is VERY easy for the nozzles on this printer to get clogged- I cannot stress that information enough. It is VERY difficult to get them unclogged. Then the printer did not recognize the genuine epson ink cartridges we bought (that were VERY expensive). So we had to contact customer service. Rather than replace the printer, they took 7-10 days to send us a replacement for the cartridge it did not recognize. Well, after we replaced that cartridge the printer decided it did not recognize a different cartridge. So we waited another 7-10 days for another. After a while we realized the new cartridge had not arrived (by this time we’d almost forgotten we have a printer). When we contacted customer service they apologized and said they forgot to send a new cartridge. They refuse to replace the printer until they replace the cartridges it does not recognize to make sure they are not “dud” cartridges, so we could go through this process several times even though all the nozzles were clogged prior to changing the ink anyway. I am not very happy that we spent so much money on genuine cartridges that may or may not be any good, but you cannot use any other type in the printer so you are stuck with questionable quality ink. Or a questionable printer- we may someday find out the answer to that question. I’ll update the post at that time.

As for the features of the printer- beautiful quality printing, easy to use, works well with our computer. We were highly satisfied until we had to change the ink. If we had a faster moving customer service experience we would probably still be satisfied, but taking two months to even get halfway to a solution it not acceptable.

Epson WorkForce 600 Wireless All-in-One Printer (Black) (C11CA18201)

After a lot of research, I opted for the Epson WorkForce 600. This was a replacement for THREE in a row HP defects. (Sub-note: HP in my opinion has lost its once top-of-the-line quality. I had 3 in a row each – printers and laptops – that were “duds” and HP has lost me as a customer. Thanks for letting me “vent” about this, but it was important to voice my opinion on HP’s decline in quality and reliability.)

My new Epson is a high-quality all-in-one machine. The set up was easy (although I am still having trouble with the wireless connection, which for me, is not a priority.) It is a very solid machine, somewhat heavier and larger than others in this class, but for me, this speaks to quality. I have used all of the functions with good results. The printer works great – is fast, the print quality is crisp and clear. Ink use seems a bit more economical than the HPs I have had, and the ink itself is awesome! I read in a review that Epson ink would not smear with a yellow highlighter and it does NOT! Amazing! At first, I was skeptical about the 4 separate ink cartridges, but this is proving to be an economical feature, with the ink cartridges being very easy to replace. (Sub-note: I read in another review that Epson printers will NOT accept generic ink cartridges. I have not tried generics myself, but I wanted to include this as a warning for those who like using generic ink.) The paper holder capacity is small (supposed to be about 100 sheets), but this is not a major issue for me.

On to the fax capability: It basically sends and receives fine. The settings were a bit difficult for me, but I think this is just a matter of getting used to the machine. It also took a couple of tries to get the settings correct with my answering machine, but once this is set correctly it is not something that continually needs to be adjusted. As with most fax machines, you may opt for post fax written reports or not. It has the usual speed dial settings. One feature that I missed from HP machines is the ability to set up the fax from your computer. With the Epson, you need to do settings from the control panel.

Scanning: With the scanner, you can operate it nicely from your computer. It has the usual setting that are easy to input, the scanning is fast and I have had good results with both color and black & white originals.

Copying: Not much to say except that the copy process is very fast using the document feeder. Just set the number of copies you want and the WorkForce does the rest either in color or black and white. The copier has the lift-up top for centering documents/pictures on the copy glass. I want to say again that I am impressed with the Epson ink – the colors are bright and the ink withstands a yellow highlighter without smudging or smearing.

I need to comment on the noise factor: The Epson Workforce 600 is not a quiet machine, but for me this is not an issue. However, you probably want to plan your setup keeping the Epson away from your phone as much as possible. If you are highly sensitive to noise, you may want to look to another brand. Again, for me this is not an issue and would not influence my purchase choice if I knew this before buying it.

To sum up, this is a solid, quality machine – it is heavier and larger than others in this class. Set-up is easy, but I had problems with the wireless connection. It’s operating system (meaning the document feeder) is fast although a bit loud. The ink system uses 4 cartridges that are very easy to replace and the ink seems to last longer than my multifunction HP machines. (Another review warned that the Epson would not accept “generic” ink brands, although I have not tried this.) The ink withstands the highlighter test, is clear and bright. All of the functions work very well for me – I am quite pleased with this machine and would definitely buy it again. I hope this information is useful to you in making your choice of a good all-in-one printer.

Endeared itself to me right out of the box by being so easy to set up
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Epson Workforce 600 endeared itself to me right out of the box by being so easy to set up. I have it running in “Network” mode; specifically, I’ve got it attached via Ethernet cable to a near-by wireless router. Then, I’m accessing the printer throughout my house over my wireless network. Though you can also go fully wireless if you’re not so lucky to have your printer side-by-side with your router, you have to at least do your initial set-up/install in the network mode. [The other (third) operational option is directly connected to your PC via USB cable.]

To install, I went to the route of pulling the latest version of the drivers and utilities off of the Epson web site. The page is easy to locate online. The info there is well laid-out. Epson makes it a snap to determine what the right package is for you. While there is a CD included in the box, I recommend avoiding it so that you don’t load all the third-party, extraneous applications that come bundled with the core drivers and utilities. Plus, you’re assured of getting the most up-to-date versions online.

Anyway, getting the printer up and running and synch-ed up with my main computing environment was a snap. I work on a Windows 7 64-bit eval OS. Epson’s Vista 64-bit driver did the trick without issue. I was doing network printing – and network scanning (take that Canon!) – within a matter of minutes. Of particular note, the scanner’s pieces slid seamlessly into my Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 implementation. I can scan directly into Acrobat Pro over the network. That’s “Epson for the Win” in my book.

One odd postscript: I tried a similar set-up on an older Windows XP machine in my house. The install crashed (‘easyinstall.exe has encountered a problem and must close’). I called Epson customer support and had a rather odd experience: I was told three times in rapid succession by two agents that “We have a top-notch team here at Epson and I’m sure that we can help you out.” This mantra came so early and often it sounded more than a bit staged and recited. Anyway, the “solution” offered to me was that I ‘call Microsoft.’ Huh? I may as well go call Bill Gates for all the help that solution path gave me. Luckily, a successful installation on that machine isn’t important since we’ll soon replace that older XP device with a Win 7-based model once those hit the street in October (yes, we’re among the multitudes who’ve avoided the Vista stinkbomb).

    Almost Perfect

We’ve been using this printer for 4 months in a small office setting. I swear it does absolutely everything, and you don’t have to be an IT expert to use it.

I hesitated to buy it at first because I’m used to HP printers with the “black” and “color” cartridges. This one has separate cartridges for each color. The price was right, so I went ahead and bought it, and now I couldn’t be happier with the decision.

The only two drawbacks we’ve seen are 1) it’s a bit noisy, and 2) the paper can be difficult to load. The noise doesn’t bother us since the printer is set up in a back office, but the paper gets hung up on something when we try to load it. It’s really more of a nuisance than a problem.

The very first thing we noticed was how fast this thing prints. Wow! It was also very easy to set up and network with three XP machines. The print quality is beautiful and the fax is easy to use.

Despite the noise and the difficult “paper tray”, this printer is worth every single penny.

  24. V. Lapato Says:

Worst and most expensive printer I’ve ever owned
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Before I bought the Workforce 600, I had never owned a printer that cost over $80. Turns out, all those cheap printers were better than this one.

First of all, it’s unbelievably fussy about what kind of paper you put in it. I do a lot of work that gets put into 3-ring binders, so I like to use pre-drilled paper. Pre-drilled paper jams in this printer. (Oddly enough, it doesn’t jam if you feed it upside-down, so that the holes are on the wrong side of the page. But that doesn’t really help things, does it?)

Most card stock, especially the heavier perforated business card paper, jams. Envelopes are often a problem. Even if they don’t jam, they feed through crooked, or they double-print and smear. The sheet feeder is also apparently very sensitive to paper texture. I’ve had experiences where things printed fine on one side, but when I tried to do 2-sided printing, the paper would jam when I tried to print on the other side.

I bought one of those print-your-own wedding invitation kits at Office Depot, and the stock wouldn’t feed through. I ended up having to go out and buy a $49 HP ink jet printer, and they fed through fine and looked great.

On top of that, it goes through an amazing amount of ink. I’m constantly having to replace the color cartridges, even though I rarely print anything in color. I can get about 150 pages out of a black cartridge, provided I’m not printing very densely on the page. For some reason, the printer uses both black and colored ink to print black text. So if your colored ink gets low, your black text will print out as brown. And maybe this is a common thing with printers, but I hate the fact that if it runs out of colored ink, you cannot print anything at all, not even black text.

I bought this printer because it was an all-in-one, was compact, and because it had wi-fi. I thought it would be nice to print from my laptop from anywhere in the house, without having to plug in the USB cable. But considering the price I paid for that convenience, and the fact that the printer is otherwise such an enormous hassle, it wasn’t worth it.

    WOW!

This printer is amazing! I am floored by the speed of the printer, as well as the quality of the prints…it’s comparable to the commercial machine I use at work. It was extremely easy to set up wirelessly. I cannot say enough good things about this all-in-one. I replaced an HP that cost 3X as much, and crapped out within a few months. All functions on this all-in-one are easy to use. One of my favorite feautures is being able to turn the color off and just print gray scale…most of the time I don’t need color. I would recommend this machine to anyone. I rarely review items, good or bad, but this machine is too good not to share with others. For the price, I still can’t believe all the features this has to offer.

    Great all-in-one for home use

I purchased this all-in-one for home use and am extremely happy with the purchase. Print quality is excellent for both documents and photos. Scanner/copier is easy and convenient to use. I haven’t yet tried the fax feature but was able to easily set it up. I highly recommend this product.

    It’s great!

There are a lot of reviews here so I am just going to mention things that i find really relevant.

Installation had one initial glitch, it couldn’t find my wifi network. I called tech support and we ended up manually entering the wifi info by going through the setup options on the printer and manually typing in my wifi SSID name and password, not a big deal once i knew how to do it.

It’s not loud in my opinion – I do have it in quiet mode and it seems fine, quiet and fast.

Paper loading doesn’t seem a big deal either.

Ink usage: honestly I don’t know yet, i’m still on my first set and haven’t run out. It does says it primes the system initially and that does use ink. For me this is a light duty machine so ink costs may not be so bad regardless.

Overall I’m very happy with it and the ability to print over my wireless network is great.

Epson Workforce 600 (the Pros and Cons)
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have been an EPSON printer owner for a long time. My last printer lasted for over 5 years, before one of the screens got clogged (costing more to fix than replace), so I began a two week research on printers & new brands. I went with the ESPON Workforce 600. My main concern was having a copier & printer that could handle my work load. The extra functions were a plus, but not really needed. Unless your home office is designed with the on-line hub in easy proximity of each other (does not work with the MAC Airport), the wireless is not going to work. With most of the new printers- this printer goes through ink quickly! Did i say quickly? Its a vampire!! Still it only needs four cartridges (better quality printers needs six or larger), but the quality is actually very good. Again, it sucks up ink!!! Not just during the install, but needed new ink after 25 full color prints. The knowledge to calibrate and what papers to use helps a bit for quality of print.

The display screen is a plus, but the sub categories are a pain to go through (more of a pet peeve for me not a real negative). The design is attractive & the plastic trays are easy to pull & push back in. The control pad can stay flat or pull out at an angle, which is a nice feature. The top hood does not remove (for large odd shaped scanning material), but it has a paper feeder and for a small business this helps. Overall its a good machine. Its quick and warms up quickly. Shuts down quickly also. Works well with a MAC & the set-up is very easy to install.

Some people have written that they could not print from certain applications, like Word. I have not had that problem. I am quite happy with this printer (not thrilled). The ink cost is a problem. Using generic ink can void warranties/ or just hurt the printer’s screens. However, this is a problem with all the new printers since 2009 (not just EPSON, but HP & others).

The most useful thing “I” have found in most reviews are not so much what each reviewer thought sucked, but what value the product actual gave back. If you have a small business from home & have a moderate knowledge of know-how with printers, you will be very happy with this machine. The features are fun and can add to your prints if you are not creative. Again set-up is easy. Depending on who you buy from: Shipping and condition can vary. Yet, this review is on the machine itself.

If you are looking for a cheap printer to make life easier, no problems and well…. have fun searching. I’d recommend this printer to a home business like mine. Thank you.

    Poor Cartridge Life
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This unit has a number of good features, including a higher than normal scan quality. However, the attributes are ruined because of cartridge issues. First, Epson has made it difficult, if not impossible to use third-party or re-manufactured cartridges. I’m sure from their point of view, that’s great, but not from mine. Next, their own cartridges don’t work well on this unit, either how long the cartridges last, compared to other printers I’ve had, or in their reliability. I have had different color cartridges (red and yellow) stop working within a few days of changing all units. To get replacements, you have to contact Epson customer service. After a few days, they get back to you, asking for a number of details. After you supply those, you get an e-mail saying that they will refer them to be technical department. After a few more days, they then notify you that they have accepted your issue. They then notify you that they will be sending out a replacement cartridge. It is received approximately a week later. Meanwhile you have them without that cartridge for printing for about 2 weeks.

In the latest instance, the red (magenta) cartridge stopped working, and I went through the customer service/technical department dance. When I finally got the replacement, it didn’t work, either. So I guess my magenta nozzle isn’t working, even though I have performed all the maintenance operations on it. Everything I print comes out weird looking.

The last thing is that only the scan and print functions can be done from the computer. None of the maintenance operations, no faxing or copying functions can be done from the graphical user interface. Why? Because only the scan function has one. This is very different from other printers I’ve had, where almost everything could be done from the computer. And this is supposed be a networked computer.

All in all, I wish I had gone with HP, which has performed so reliably for me in the past. I guess the money I saved wasn’t worth it, because if you can’t print something right, it’s not worth anything.

Has good points, but definitely NOT an office machine
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Have owned it for a couple of months now. I cannot speak to the WiFi issues others have had, since I deliberately avoided that hassle and just plugged it directly into PC via USB.

    Pros:

    - It basically does what it advertises and the print quality is certainly good.

    - This is a great-for-the-price, home machine, particularly for photos or pictures in general, which is basically what it’s designed for

    - Ink usage I found to be actually quite reasonable on the normal setting

    Downsides:

    - It will only print No.10 sized envelopes. This is absurd! Any other size it just spits out, and yes, this includes larger custom-sizes!

    - It will not print on pre-hole-punched paper; that causes a paper-jam error. Again, for an office machine, absurd!

    - There is no perceptible difference between the two economy settings, both of which are so light as to be almost useless. On the other hand, ink usage in the normal setting is quite reasonable.

    - As others have pointed out, this is a MANUAL duplexer; ie. one has to print one side, turn the paper over and reinsert it into the printer to print the other side.
