Great fax for the price
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a nice fax from HP. The styling and color lend to its use in any office decor. Instead of using thermal paper or ribbon it utilizes thermal inkjet technology which is way better than the ribbon cartridges of yesteryear.
The footprint of the unit is small making it a perfect companion for the corporate office or the SOHO. Easy to use features make setting up the unit a snap. And its built-in copy facility mitigates the need for a separate copier.
All in all, a great machine at a great price that will meet the needs and budget of most people.

Can’t use as answerer
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The sound quality on the answering machine was so poor we couldn’t understand any message, and returned it–easily, thanks to Amazon’s excellent return policy.

Great Little Fax

One word ~ Efficient!
We needed a good fax machine without all the bells & whistles on many faxes these days, and this one caught our eye. We have been very happy with this product and would highly recommend it!

No problems so far
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve only had it 2 days but I sent a fax and the speed seemed good to me, way faster that the Brother Fax machine I had. I made a copy of a detailed set of instructions and the copy came out just as good as the original, (this was all on the default settings, I changed nothing). The answering machine is working fine and the messages are clear. Setting the machine up was easy enough, everything you need is in the box. I have not “recieved” a fax yet to rate that but if it works as good as the rest has so far I’m sure it will be fine. The only thing I dont care for is the fact that there is no recieving paper tray. So you’ll need a little room in front of the machine or your fax /copies will end up on the floor. We had the 1040 model at work and when you answer the phone there is a short delay from the time you pick up the reciever to when you can actually hear the person on the other line, I have not noticed any of that with this machine. So far I’m perfectly happy with this machine. Not counting the paper tray issue.

Good, affordable fax/copier

Amazon had the best price considering the free shipping.
The HP 1050 Fax works as advertised. The only problem is sometimes it grabs more than one sheet when copying.

This fax will self-destruct in one year….
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Aside from the horrible speaker, which reduces phone messages to nearly indecipherable gargling sounds, this fax appears to be pre-programmed to self-destruct within a year. A few days after the warranty expired, our machine lost its ability to maintain a stable phone line connection (and the problem is not with the phone line). Furthermore, when we try to use it for copying it consistently fails with a “paper jam” error, even though there is nothing of the kind. Naturally, I’m really glad I bought the now worthless 1 year replacement package as well. What a total waste of $140. If you’re in the market for a reliable fax, I’d look further than this fragile toy.

Great features, great price, horrible speakerphone
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This machine is great looking, compact, and seems to be the perfect combination fax/answering machine/speakerphone. One major problem: The phone is well below average in sound quality, and the speaker is absolutely terrible. The tiny, poorly made speaker is placed in the back left side of the unit and and is totaly inaudible at loud volumes due to distortion. The fax is great, the print quality is great, the speed is great, but you have to lower the volume and lean over with your head against the speaker to hear messages. This problem also renders the speakerphone useless. I returned this unit twice thinking it was defective, but spoke to HP and was told that is just the way this unit works. Buy the Panasonic KX-FHD351 if you need a great sounding unit. The only problem with the Panasonic is that it doesn’t come in black, but is a much better phone/answering/speakerphone.

Horrible Answer Machine/Great Fax
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
If the answer machine feature isn’t essential, the fax is great. If you don’t give a fig who is calling or care to hear messages, this is the machine for you. You will never have to return a call agin because you won’t be able to understand a single word of the digitally recorded message. Thank goodness for caller ID — it provides a tiny clue.

Fax Me or is it Fax you?!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Actually, this is a great fax machine for folks that aren’t too technically inclined (like me)…but I had it set up and running within 30 minutes. The only reason this didn’t get a fifth star was that there is no catch tray for incoming faxes…they just fall on the floor! Also, the digital recorder for your greeting is horrible, but the message system does do a good job of recording incoming messages…This really is a good machine for the money as most HP products are….

I have spent hours faxing over the past year
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I was looking for reviews of fax machines on amazon and came accross the 1050 I am replacing. As others have stated the answering component is unusable as the messages cannot be understood (the quality is similar to my childrens toys that record a phrase and play it back–very tinny and garbled). I have spent many wasted hours faxing as the machine frequently refuses to load more than a single sheet at a time when I load a document for scanning. This has often led to having to send a couple of sheets, then redial (at additional expense) and send one or two more. Ditto for the paper loading mechanism for printing. The pages frequently hang up, or the rollers attempt to pull through multiple sheets or none at all. This has often led to having to send a couple of sheets, then redial and send one or two more. Recently after 45 minutes of trying I was able to send 8 pages! It seems the things I want to fax and recieve are frequently last minute items. I only hope my children have not heard the steady streams of profanity associated with using this machine, I say this only partly in jest. I have kept using the HP 1050 because I’m cheap, and because it seems I must be paying a penance for a prior sin.
The construction is flimsy, the guide to the paper loader fell off the first month as I was loading paper, feel free to contact me for duct tape instructions for holding it on.
The only positive is that if you have a worst enemy, it would make a fine gift.
